G'Day USA trip a great success

30/01/2012

It was my pleasure to accompany 14 Mackay North SHS students on the G’Day USA Tour over the Christmas holidays. The fortunate participants were Vanessa Chapman, Georgina Jansen, Aidan Joy, Ryan Smith, Ethan Bailey, Brodie Stanley, Rachel Bishop, Georgina Kelleher, Billie-Jean Hobbs, Jessica Mathieson, Jed Zupanovich, Taren McAuley, Shanae Larking and Cleo Falzon.

We arrived in San Francisco on 30th December and spent New Years Eve touring
the city in stretch Limousines and Hummers. Walking across the Golden Gate
Bridge, sailing around Alcatraz and taking the cable car were other highlights of
San Francisco.

This was followed by a few days in Los Angeles which meant Disneyland! Knotts
Berry Farm, Universal Studio and dinner and a show at Medieval Times were also
favourites.

The last ten days of the tour were spent in San Diego where we were hosted by
families from Carlsbad Public School. Our students spent a day at school where
they didn’t have to wear uniforms but did have to sit through two hour classes.
The rest of the time we visited such places as Sea World, San Diego Zoo, the USS
Midway and several shopping centres.

It was so much fun to watch the students experience the culture of another country
and they were very grateful for the opportunity. Cleo Falzon (10S1) wrote:
“America was the most fun I’ve ever had away from home. It was a great
experience and I’ve made some really good friends.”

I was very proud of our students’ positive attitudes and wish to thank them for their
excellent behaviour. The next G’Day USA Tour will be in December 2013 and
representatives from Educational World Travel will address Assemblies in the next
couple of months.
