Interhouse Swimming Carnival 2014

Swimming Carnival 2014

Following the postponement of the 2014 Interhouse Swimming Carnival by one week, students finally entered the pool for battle in the annual challenge to be crowned swimming champions. With the sun shining, a total of 396 students participated in the 2-part carnival, with those in Years 8 & 9 diving in first in the morning session, followed by the Year 10, 11 and 12 students in the afternoon session.
The morning session saw the Year 8s competing in the first sporting carnival at North, and the Year 9s continuing their efforts from last year. This session was action packed with many close races, a “Cheer Off” (won by Spiller) and even a teacher winning a race against the students! This part of the swimming carnival was finished off with the presentation of the Age Champions and a House Captains relay (won by Spiller). The results saw Norris narrowly in the lead from a determined Fitzgerald team, followed by Spiller, with Bagley in last place.
In the afternoon session, a large number of students from Years 10, 11 and 12 took the plunge and hoped to carry on the good work done - or make up ground – from their younger teammates. The calm waters of the pool suddenly almost resembled a washing machine, with competitors arms and legs moving at rapid pace. The relays saw the best teams from each House going head to head, proving to be a very close race in each of the year levels. After quickly calculating & re-calculating the scores, it was time to announce the age champions, and also the Swimming Carnival Champion House. In the end, Norris proved to be too strong and took out the title for 2014, followed by Fitzgerald in 2nd; close behind Fitzgerald was Spiller in 3rd, leaving Bagley in 4th place for this year’s Swimming Carnival.
Thank you to all the students, House Captains, staff & parents for the support and making the Swimming Carnival such a successful day; without your support, it would not have been the enjoyable day it was.
The next time that the Houses will compete will be for the Cross Country title on Wednesday 30th April (Week 2 Term 2). Bagley are looking to defend their title from last year – can they do it?!  More information on this day will be distributed closer to the event.
