Mixed Touch Footy Review

Year 7 Touch Footy players

Year 7s produced an amazing mixed touch footy competition this term!  The initial goal was to provide students with a healthy, sociable and active outlet for their pent-up energy.  It soon became apparent that the competition was not only achieving that goal, but was also providing the students with a stage on which to display their considerable speed, skills and exemplary teamwork.

It soon became apparent that Fitzgerald were the team to beat.  Spiller tailed close behind them, as did Bagley and Norris.  There were many fine individual and team performances displayed by many boys and girls, and the games drew an increasing number of participants and onlookers.

After four rounds the grand finalists were decided based on their win-loss records as well as their for-and-against aggregates.  Fitzgerald and Spiller subsequently met in the grand final.  In what was a very close game, Fitzgerald scored in the first half, and managed to hold off a fast-finishing Spiller in the second half to secure a 1 – 0 win.  Fitzgerald’s Elijah Levitz and Spiller’s Kai Wicks were both voted ‘Best and Fairest’ for their outstanding performances in the grand final.

A special mention must be made of our Referees. Thank you so much to Connor Laycock, Logan Purdy and Luke Fagan for sharing your skill and expertise of the game to ensure every match returned a fair and just result!
